The Environmental monitoRIng through Civic engAgement (ERICA) is an ERASMUS+ project that started in November 2023. ERICA’s main objective is to improve citizens’ environmental awareness and civic engagement through the development of a new educational methodology on citizen science for environmental monitoring.

PROJECT
The project aims to empower citizens through citizen science, fostering climate action and environmental protection engagement. It also aims to improve public understanding of climate change and local fossil fuel industry impacts.
METHOD
The ERICA methodology aims to empower citizens in monitoring fossil fuel industry impacts. It’s founded on best practices outlined in the ERICA e-booklet, offering theoretical protocols and multimedia training.
PLATFORM
The ERICA platform will be an open-access online hub housing all formative contents of the ERICA methodology and training. It will serve as a catalyst for lifelong learning, enhancing the digital competencies of adult citizens.

December 2023
Kick-off meeting in Italy
At the meeting organized by Cova Contro we discussed the work packages and objectives of the project. We also visited two pollution study sites: Eni oil center and Lake Pertusillo.
October 2024
Interim meeting in Spain
During the 1st year, we'll analyze citizen science literature, existing monitoring tools, and best practices for actionable data. Through focus groups, we'll gather requirements and create an e-booklet of best practices.
July 2025
Interim meeting in Poland
During the 2nd year, we'll develop e-learning modules that will be uploaded onto the ERICA platform. They'll focus on environmental monitoring practice, monitoring technologies, and actionable knowledge.
November 2025
ERICA training in Italy (C1)
The ERICA methodology and platform training (C1) will conclude the 2nd project year. This cornerstone event will empower stakeholders with competencies and skills to monitor fossil fuel industry impacts.
October 2026
Final meeting in Italy
The final meeting will assess project impact with qualitative and quantitative indicators. Discussions will revolve around the training course's future and long-term sustainability.
